The successful candidate for Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Road Safety programs role will be a key part of the WHS team and will be committed to reducing on road accidents, death and life changing injuries on the roads for our associates and delivery partners, thus safely delivering the smiles to our customers. This will include the strategy and execution for WHS Road Safety programs across India Operations Business Units -Fulfillment Centers/Sort centers/delivery stations. The Road Safety Programs Manager will be a virtual role with a requirement to travel to different INOPs sites once a week. This role will support Road Safety Initiatives across INOPs.
The individual will work to identify best practices across the globe and incorporate these into our programs to continuously improve the Road Safety Index across miles.
Detailed Description:
· Create a strategy for Business Unit (BU) wise programs and initiatives that will improve the Road Safety Index
· Identify opportunities in vehicle, driver and journey management to improve Safety on the road for our associates, contractors and customers
· Develop BU's Road safety index score card, create awareness amongst site team and track the compliance
· Create an affinity group of Ops, HR & Admin and WHS members to contribute towards continuous improvement on the Road Safety Goal
· Work with WHS, HR, Procurement and legal team to create a set of non-negotiables in Road Safety compliance and drive the same through Golden rules and Safety Code of Conduct for all drivers include HOH driver and 2W riders include individual commute to site by own
· Work with tech team to harness technologies / platforms available to create meaningful Road Safety measurement and training modules
· Coordinate with procurement team and incorporate WHS guideline in work order of Home Office Home, line haul, milk run vehicles and drivers including adhoc vehicle
· Assist in the development of Defensive Driving Techniques training programs specific to BU and innovative methodologies to deliver and measure the same.
· Collaborating with Global Road safety team on implementation of Global Road Safety Best Practices
· Regularly review any notifications by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and inform Logistics / Admin and HR on changes that affects them.
· Ensure robust reporting mechanisms are in place for WHS statistics around Road Safety
· Providing management with information and statistics related to Road Safety
· Work with local Road Transport Authorities, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) Team to create opportunities for Amazon to contribute towards community Road safety initiatives
· Work with Internal and External Communications team to create powerful Road Safety messaging in line with WHS Goals and Brand identity
· Develop and implement road safety campaigns as per the WHS Campaign Calendar
· Ensure compliance through mechanisms like HOH audits, Surprise audits etc.
· Partnering with AUSTIN / Gensuite team on incident and injury case management and Corrective and Preventive Actions closure for Road Safety Incidents
· Partnering with third party providers so that they meet Amazon WHS requirements of Road Safety
· Ability to travel 20% of the time between INOPs site locations
Basic qualifications
· Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), or other related fields from an accredited university
· 5 + years work experience with growing responsibilities in WHS- specifically Road Safety Management
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to influence and partner with all levels of the organization and outside contacts.
· Technical or Procedure Writing skills
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization and ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction and strategy.
· An in-depth understanding of essential/relevant Indian regulations, standards legislation and on-road best practice.
· Ability to analyse Road incidents and conduct Root Cause Analysis and capture learnings for the program
· High on Ownership and creativity and ability to influence without authority
· Flexible approach to work, able to manage own priorities and workload
