Role summary: As a Vehicle Electronics Organization team member, the Electrical Component Engineer is supporting and assisting senior engineers globally in the design, validation, and application of sensors and electronic components into Agriculture and Construction Equipment Product Lines. They will support global systems and application engineering teams and supporting issue resolutions using disciplined problem-solving methodologies. The Electrical Component Engineer will assist in the management of suppliers and provide component product development oversight.
Primary Responsibilities: The following apply to the responsibility of sensors and electronic related components.
Support component engineering activities which includes research, development, and co-development of components.
Collect hardware requirements from global cross-functional teams.
Author component level technical specifications governing functional and performance requirements.
Assist in the review of supplier component design documentation, including schematic, worst case circuit analysis, printed circuit board layout, DFMEA, component and ergonomic styling.
Assist in the review and approval of supplier component validation test plans and reports.
Assist in the review of supplier component failure analysis reports.
Assist in the management of component suppliers throughout the development, validation and production phases.
Develop and implement supplier engineering change requests (SECRs) for design revisions.
Assist the analysis and evaluation of new or improved electronic/electrical components.
Assist with the design, fabrication, test, implementation and modification of electronic/electrical components, products and systems.
Establish test procedures and systems for inspection of electronic/electrical components.
Assist with technology roadmaps and commodity/supplier strategies.
Participate in problem resolutions of components utilizing industry known best practices such as 8D, and 5Why.
Assist in preparation of designs, layouts and drawings for component development and/or improvements.
Support application, sub system and system engineering teams with preparation of reports
Help facilitate communication between engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, quality and other functional areas within multi-disciplinary product development team environments.
Assist Design-Of-Experiments and Design Validation testing
Help evaluate design and validation gaps by comparing existing Commercial-Off-The-Shelf technologies and custom developed solutions.
Supplier technical liaison
Responsible for internal customer satisfaction, documenting processes and best practices.
Assist in the review of detailed engineering drawings and helps release components for production procurement.
Provide issue recommendations and helps oversee supplier corrective actions, traveling to supplier sites as needed to facilitate communication between engineering and suppliers.
Assist senior engineers with the coordination of new product development projects and their progress. Interfaces regularly with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of components and compliance to company requirements, specifications, standards and 2D/3D engineering documentation.
Maintain and communicate component development status and risk to management and customers.
Assist in the development/communication/deployment of component specific integration/installation requirements
Support vehicle level signoff of component installation at various program milestones.
Assist in the creation of project status reports and provides frequent team progress updates to direct supervisor and relevant project managers.
Assist in the creation, maintenance, and management of component develop project plans.
The qualified candidate will have:
A bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field of study.
A minimum of 0-3 years of relevant professional experience, including Co-Op and/or Internship experience in related field.
Capable of reading and understanding electrical system schematics.
Formal circuit analysis skills.
Capable of understanding environmental validation requirements and associated test procedures.
Can work with tight deadline and under pressure.
Solid formal technical foundation and organization skills.
Possess strong communication skills and the ability to engage/correspond with global network of teams, colleagues, and interfaces, in which English may be a second language.
Shows good aptitude for analyzing and consolidating information.
Ability to take guidance and work independently.
Travel up to 10% of the time both domestic and international.
OEM or Tier 1 product development Co-OP/Internship experience.
Experience with Automotive Environmental Validation requirements and test procedures for electrical and electronic components.
Communication skills in foreign languages.
Experience with ProE (or other MCAD SW like Unigraphics, CREO, or Catia).
Capable of understanding and using CANalyzer or similar network analysis/diagnostic tools.
Is analytical and has problem solving capabilities and experience.
Experience with formal problem-solving methodologies (8D, 7D, 5Why).
