Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools. Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design.
Profile Overview
  • Engineer will be part of a 24/7 Storage, Backup and SAN operations team and will be directly responsible for storage, Backup and SAN related processes.
  • The position involves taking a leadership role with customer teams and internal teams to resolve problems, maintain managed Storage and SAN operations and, when necessary, to return systems to operational status.
  • The job also involves leading communication between technical teams, customer and internal organization to fulfill customer needs and accomplish customer satisfaction.
  • Job specific responsibilities include managing and administration of Storage Arrays like EMC VMAX, DMX and VNX Storage systems, backup environments like Symantec NetBackup, EMC Networker and CommVault.
  • The candidate needs to be proficient in managing and administration of Cisco MDS 95xx director switches and MDS 91xx edge switches. He should be well versed with Cisco CLI and GUI interfaces.
  • Supporting and troubleshooting Storage LUN creation, provisioning, SAN Switch zoning and administration in a large, complex and widely distributed environment.
  • Managing and troubleshooting the NetBackup and Networker backup operations, and capability to troubleshoot the failures.
  • Provide status and progress reports for storage and SAN environment related activities and tasks on regular/periodic basis.
  • Plan and implement best practices for storage, Backup and SAN solutions.
  • Proactive measures to ensure adequate storage capacity is available.
  • Create and update documentation for backup procedures, solutions, licensing and applicable project artifacts.
  • Perform configuration changes as per design and build.
  • Work on complex issues related to performance and assist L1 and L2

Experience:
Required:
  • Professional degree or equivalent experience and minimum 6+ years related IT experience.
  • Hands on experience in Operations and Support on Storage Arrays like EMC VMAX, VNX and DMX systems.
  • Hands on experience in maintaining and operating backup environments of NetBackup, Networker and CommVault is required.
  • Aptitude towards problem solving and troubleshooting skills on Storage Arrays, Array Management software, SAN connectivity and zone administration, etc., including log analysis.
  • Good knowledge of networking concepts and iSCSI protocol.
  • Administration of VMAX/VNX - Volume creation and provisioning, Snapshot, Replication etc.
  • Good knowledge on usage of Multipath technologies
  • Candidate should have good understanding of different filesystems like NFS/Distributed File System/XFS

Must Have
  • Proven exposure to SAN technologies
  • EMC Storage Arrays - VMAX, VNX and DMX
  • Awareness of EMC Storage Array management Software like EMC Navisphere, CLI
  • Knowledge and experience on Symantec NetBackup/EMC Networker
  • Good Understanding of at least Operating System (Linux)
  • Cisco MDS 95xx and 91xx administration and troubleshooting
  • Cisco SAN management tools like DCNM, Fabric manager and Device manager
  • Exposure to Cisco CLI management commands
  • Good troubleshooting skills on SAN Switch related issues
  • Expert on EMC Storage encryption
  • Knowledge of Remote Support and Remote monitoring processes and concepts
  • Tools Knowledge on any ticketing tools (Service Now/Snow etc...)
  • Commvault Backup awareness would be an added advantage.
  • ITIL Certified.
  • Should be certified on Storage (EMC)
  • Cisco SAN Switch Certified
  • Certified on Symantec NetBackup

Technical Skills:
S/he will demonstrate an in depth understanding of several products in more than one functional area involving usage, configuration, and interaction with other products.
S/he must possess a balance of very well developed troubleshooting, technical communication and written skills along with extensive product knowledge and skills.
Candidate should have excellent technical communication skills both verbal and written.
Interpersonal Skills:
Be professional in all modes of interaction with our internal & external customers.
Be capable of making well founded decisions in high pressure situations & exercising diplomacy when operating in politically charged environments.
Actively listen and confirm problem details showing empathy for urgent situations
Utilize effective negotiation skills which will lead to satisfactory issue resolutions.
