Microsoft Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (CHIE) is the team behind Microsoft's expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft's 'Intelligent Cloud' mission. CHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. CHIE's Manufacturing Data and Systems Intelligence team is seeking an innovative, driven, and intellectually curious Software Development Engineer. The team is accountable for developing the front-end applications, business intelligence, and data reporting that enable manufacturing engineering, hardware quality, and new product introduction for Microsoft's cloud service offerings. This role has a direct and measurable impact on Microsoft's competitive advantage by reducing the time-to-market for new services and ensuring the quality and scalability of hardware and software solutions. A successful candidate for this role will leverage their hands on development, analytical, leadership, and communication skills to deliver innovative solutions that will transform the way our customers interact with our products.
  • Develop and test databases, data warehouses, data lakes, queries and views, reports, dashboards, and metrics
  • Work with business stakeholders, team members, and project management to understand requirements, and develop data-driven applications and business intelligent analytics.
  • Provide suggestions on the best way to view reports, implement report viewing tools
  • Work on development team on various projects to provide input to data collection as it pertains to output reporting
  • Respond to issues and perform resolutions
  • Perform data conversions, imports, and exports of data within and between internal and external software systems
  • Perform code reviews with team members
  • Follow through reporting projects/analysis from concept through completion, then automate and modify as needed

  • bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems
  • 2 years of experience as an app developer or bi developer
  • proficiency with microsoft power platform including power apps, power automate/logic apps, and power bi or similar
  • extensive experience developing and deploying reports, dashboards, and metrics
  • possess expertise in msbi stack including ssrs, ssis, ssas with advanced t-sql or similar
  • expertise in tabular and multidimensional queries (dax, mdx)
  • experience creating bi solutions and working with cloud bi tools such as aws or azure
  • direct experience writing sql within ms sql server & ssrs
  • expert in sql server development including t-sql programming, kpis, data mining, mds and working with changing dimensions
  • expert in defining queries for generating drill down and drill through reports in ssrs and powerbi
  • experienced in etl implementation using ssis

preferred qualifications:
  • master's degree in computer science or related engineering disciplines
  • proven track record of successfully influencing others at all levels of the organization
  • 4+ years of related business experience as a bi developer
  • expert creating global bi solutions and working with cloud bi tools in ms azure or similar
