VMware is looking for talented candidates to fill a Senior Manager, Site Reliability position in the End-User Computing (EUC) R&D Organization.
The VMware Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) platform allows companies to make it easy for employees to work anywhere, any time, on any device, without compromising security. This role is a great fit for an experienced manager who can manage multiple teams in a production impacting role as we innovate and expand our core SaaS platform. This manager would be expected tomake significant, direct andhigh-qualitycontributions towards improving the reliability of the product and customer satisfaction. You need to work with engineering, product managers, operations, and other stakeholders to help deliver and support quality software. You will be working with internal recruitment teams to attract and retain high quality talent. You are also expected to define development best practices and optimize process execution to help build and lead a high performing team.This role will provide opportunities to work across the organization and will be a catalyst for technical and professional growth.
Team Responsibility
The Cloud Services team drives the reliability of core applications, services and infrastructure that make up our global SaaS offering. We own and maintain the full stack of the entire application in multiple global datacenters. We are also involved in the leading-edge use cases of the SaaS transformation of the product and work towards automated solutions for both infrastructure and the application.
Role Responsibility
This Senior Manager will be responsible for the Cloud Services teams based out of India. The teams are currently responsible for Infrastructure Services, Application Services, Automation development & Site Reliability. The responsibilities includes a mix of operational work around patching, maintenance, vulnerability management etc. , DevOps transformation around CI/CD pipelines, SaaS Automation and reliability engineering around modern monitoring, telemetry etc. You should have a DevOps oriented mindset, be willing to take on challenges, maintain a high degree of ownership & transparency and work effectively both on a team and independently.The responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Lead, hire, retain,developand people managea top-notch team of site reliability engineersto supportproduction solutions and help address business priorities
  • Promoting a culture of high ownership, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence
  • Lead not only at the strategic level, but also tactically day-to-day by diving deeply into business and technical domain
  • Drive reliability engineering practices such as error budgets, blameless retrospectives, chaos engineering, etc.
  • Drive the product towards higher availability and reliability & assist with on-call support on a rotating schedule for incident escalations (24x7)
  • Propose, define, and drive assigned projects to completion, being clear when tradeoffs are needed, and deadlines need to be adjusted to accommodate higher-priority work
  • Influence continuous improvements to our infrastructure by providing opinionated input on workstreams
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the team SLOs
  • Work with other Service leads and engineering managers to help design and develop deployment automation procedures for new cloud service offerings
  • Proactively identify potential problems, issues and actively communicate and manage issues to resolution
  • Identify, receive, triage and act upon events and incidents coming from various SaaS services and our customers.

Required Skills
  • 10+ yearsof total industry experience with relevant proven experience leading a development, operations, site reliability, or comparable cloud engineering team
  • Demonstrated track-record of execution and delivery leading teams deploying mission-critical, 24x7 solutions in a SaaS environment
  • Experience running Incident management teams, retrospectives and RCCA sessions, understanding error budgets, etc.
  • Proven development and scripting background
  • Proficiency with DevOps technologies around automation, configuration management, cloud technologies etc.
  • Experience with container technologies and microservice architecture like Kubernetes, Docker etc.
  • Experience with third-party monitoring, and logging services (e.g., ELK, Wavefront, Logz.io, etc.)
  • Experience withdesign,configuration, andmanagement oflarge and complexdata center infrastructure, systems, and operations.
  • Experience with configuring and troubleshooting web applications to ensure SLA compliance
  • Experience with database administration activities and troubleshooting
  • Proven ability to handle multiple, complex technical projects and have the flexibility to working in a very dynamic environment.
  • Excellent written andverbal communicationskills
