Job Description

This exciting new role leading machine learning engineering across a large number of Expedia Group Domains. Leveraging the power of AI & ML on top of EG's data is crucial to our success. This role will be a key leader to successfully deliver AI engines, services and products into production so that they can add value to the millions of travellers and partners using the Expedia Group Travel Platform.
The role is crucial to drive the next wave of growth ensuring that AI engines and services are built natively onto the EG platform, defining and implementing best practises, leading and motivating highly skilled ML engineers and joining the wider AI & ML leadership team to build stronger links with Machine Learning scientists, product managers and engineers across the company.
The role will lead a large number of the ML engineers in Expedia Group providing functional leadership as well as partnering to embed ML engineers on cross functional areas of ML capability or collaborating with the core Data & AI platform teams to accelerate the time to effective AI consumption of the AI / ML platform capabilities end to end.
The role will report to the VP AI, ML and Engineering.
Core Role Capabilities
  • Influence technologists across EG on a united tech vision that accelerates delivery.
  • Envision how our technology stack evolves to support business outcomes and our bottom line.
  • Oversee the development of innovative, new software applications that meet platformdesign requirements using available software development tools.
  • Collaborate across a network of internal contacts to keep all relevant parties informed and on task to ensure rapid resolution of technical issues and facilitate idea sharing around proposed improvements.
  • Follow and share industry trends in data science and machine learning engineering and can create and implementing new best practices which uniquely fit our organisation based on deep knowledge of industry and the organisation's needs.
  • Build a network with technology organizations outside of EG to grow an EG tech brand and bring insights back into the organization.
  • Inform the future product roadmap and drive customer product education to ensure improved engagement and sustainable economic successes.
  • Review the operating and technology strategy in the context of business goals and market dynamics to identify key process improvement opportunities within the business unit/function.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of customers business challenges to shape thinking around the development of technology and implementation of solutions, leading to the creation of customized, cutting-edge solutions.
  • Demonstrate the risks and benefits associated with the group's work.
  • Plan for and assign financial/material resources effectively across the business unit/function and in line with organizational resources and goals.
  • Ensure optimal location strategy is maintained when staffing team
  • Develop and drive talent strategy in DAPS ML Engineering and mentor key engineering talent outside of DAPS.
  • Contribute to cross division talent development by sharing knowledge and best practices across EG, serving as a specialist and advisor.
  • Communicate the vision, strategies, methods and techniques needed to achieve a shared goal across business units.
  • Promote a 'one-team' mentality that encourages ownership and collaboration around technical and customer problems irrespective of organizational boundaries.
  • Build pipelines of talent for the future from both internal and external talent pools.
  • Coordinate and lead Directors and drive the development of a diverse and high quality talent pipeline including executive recruiting.
  • Envision and drive broader organizational efforts around culture, work, and values to build open trusting environments where diverse viewpoints, opinions, approaches, candid conversations and critiques can happen.
  • Set strategic direction for evolving and improving team processes. Show outstanding judgment and flexibility in tailoring that process to the team's work, and exhibit decisiveness in strategic planning, execution and process evolution.

Who You Are:
  • 16+ years of experience for Bachelor's 14+ years of experience for Master's (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of experience in people management
  • Managed multiple levels of people managers.
  • Drove multiple, multi-year machine learning project roadmap/program.
  • Set vision and strategy for a multi- organization, multi dependency, cross- functional programs involving machine learning science and engineering, ideally within the context of a Platform Strategy.
  • Serves as an expert for multiple domains, familiar with domains across EG.
  • Creates mentorship programs while also mentoring in the team.
  • Defines goals and solutions to solve a business need across EG.
  • Defines and delivers across EG, working in collaboration with product team.
  • A recognised thought leader in ML engineering.
