The Role Responsibilities
Strategy

  • Accountable for defining, owning and implementing the strategy around Network Management Systems (NMS) and Toolsets. Lead Integration efforts of the Tools in Network Domain.

  • Take ownership of Global Monitoring Standards with respects to network devices including the definition and deployment for thresholding, alerting and performance management.

  • Identify and act upon opportunities for continuous improvement to the tools in order to reduce operational risks and proactively alert Reliability Engineering Teams upon fault conditions.

  • Conduct regular audits to ensure appropriate coverage across the global estate. Automate tools to achieve Regulatory compliance for Component & Infrastructure solutions.

  • Liaise with external vendors to ensure the tools are kept up to date and schedule upgrades.

  • Document the tool architecture and operational processes and procedures.

  • Adopt an &lsquoEngineering&rsquo mindset to develop automated solutions for notifications and corrections where applicable.

  • Develop and maintain tools to run network production smoothly, driving innovative solutions to optimize and automate the network infrastructure.

  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations and Application teams to maintain a highly available, highly performant infrastructure.

  • Have an awareness of new tools within the market and constantly review against our internal capabilities providing recommendations where relevant.

  • Manage SRE initiatives as SCRUM projects, following Agile methodologies.

  • Manage Network domain deliverables in SRE framework under Monitoring [Observability/Visibility].

  • Lead adoption of DevOps methodology using Bank&rsquos CI/CD pipeline.

  • Manage the contractual and financial tasks in relation to ensuring the maintenance position with each vendor is upheld and the tools are fully supported.


Capability

  • The candidate selected for this role is expected to lead transformational change in the area of Network Management Systems (NMS) and Tools.

  • Deep appreciation and technical knowledge of network management protocols such as SNMP with an understanding of how to use API integration to maximise efficiency.

  • Experience of Python, PERL, SQL etc. languages is required.

  • Must have a passion for continuous process improvement and technically capable of delivering improvements and enhancements to the infrastructure.

  • Proven experience in a comparable role within a Global Financial Services organisation responsible for monitoring of large-scale deployments of network routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers etc.

  • Experience in ensuring that infrastructure conforms to architectural principles (e.g. supportability, future-proofing, consolidation, standards and strategy).

  • Demonstrable experience successfully challenging vendors and strategy teams on solution designs resulting in an improved product.

  • Stakeholder management with experience of working effectively with all levels throughout the organisation.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, flexible and a proactive team player.

  • Specific experience in CA Spectrum, SevOne and NetBrain preferred with understanding of Netscout, Splunk, ELK, ACS, Aruba Clearpass, Infoblox and Cisco ACI.

  • Experience in Service Integration with Industry platforms like ServiceNow, Akamai, Thousand Eyes, AppDynamics and Cloud platforms &ndash AWS/Azure/GCP.

  • Experience in implementing vendor supported open-source tools to deploy advanced monitoring of complex health/performance parameters and alerting / response of issues.

  • Awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which the group operates.

  • As an absolutely critical technology service for the bank, provide clear, accurate and timely telemetry to Network Reliability Engineering Team so that the network service remains stable and performing optimally.

  • Gain a deep understanding of business objectives and priorities.


Processes

  • Ensure that Network Toolsets comply with the Technology Operations processes within the Operations Risk Framework. These include, Incident Management, Infrastructure Operations, IT Service Continuity Management, Asset Management and Operations Monitoring.


People and Talent

  • Identify, recruit and retain key network talent, providing technical leadership, mentoring, and career guidance across Network Reliability Engineering function.

  • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations from their team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.

  • Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of people and ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.

  • Employ, engage and retain high quality people.

  • Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives.


Risk Management

  • Contribute towards identifying, assessing, monitoring, controlling and mitigating risks to the Group. Also, an awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the Group and the role the individual plays in managing them

  • The ability to interpret the Group&rsquos Financial information, identify key issues based on this information and put in place appropriate controls and measures.

  • Ensure a full understanding of the risk and control environment within Network Toolsets.

  • Ensure Network Monitoring procedures are in place and adhere to Group Security & Audit policies within Network Services.

  • Take personal responsibility for understanding the risk and compliance requirements of the role.

  • Understand and comply with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws and regulations, including those governing anti-money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions the Group&rsquos policies and procedures and the Group Code of Conduct.

  • Embed Here for Good and Group&rsquos brand and values in the Network Reliability Engineering team.

  • Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional Policies & procedures.

  • Own and drive excellence in Incident / Problem / Change Management of SCB Global Network & Security Infrastructure

  • Lead regular Automation efforts to achieve Regulatory compliance for Component & Infrastructure Security Vulnerabilities

  • Lead Automation efforts of IM/CM activities by driving scripting of tasks and integrating to Banks presentation layer for Management reporting.

  • Experience in leading implementation of vendor supported tools to deploy advanced monitoring of complex health/performance parameters, alerting of issues & build executive Dashboards.

  • Lead Incident calls that involve complex multi-component, multi-platform issues together with peer Infra teams like OS Platforms, Middleware, DB and Apps support &ndash taking ownership of resolution

  • Ensure end-to-end root cause analysis and trend reporting for production issues is carried out in a way that meets business and technology requirements

  • Lead infrastructure upgrade / improvement plan.

  • Recommend and manage relevant end-to-end service improvement initiatives to address risk mitigation and service stability.

  • Ensure accurate and regularly updated information related to network documents and operational process documents.

  • Demonstrates continuous effort for identifying problematic area and providing permanent fixes.

  • Communicating with clients for providing expert advice.

  • Be a team player and lead creative initiatives to scale up as a team.

  • Academic or Professional Education/Qualifications: Degree or equivalent (Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related degree)

  • Licenses and Certifications/accreditations: CCIE or equivalent helpful but not essential
