Metallurgy Engineer / Material Scientist
Level/Grade: E3
General Profile: Fully demonstrates in-depth knowledge, experience and works as a subject matter expert. Assigned as a resource for colleagues with less experience including as a coach/mentor. Works independently, receives guidance in only moderately complex situations.
Competencies:
Subject matter expert in Metallurgy, in depth knowledge of properties of metals (especially Aluminium) and it's alloys. International standards for composition, production and measurement. Problem Solving, Design of Experiments, Process Capability measurement and improvement
Key Responsibilities
  • Understand application of the materials in domain, raw material specifications and impact of variation on application
  • Understand current sourcing map for the raw materials, and be aware of opportunities for improvement in scale, quality and cost
  • Understand production processes for material in domain, causes of variation in composition and impact on material properties (within and across batches)
  • Evaluate materials from multiple mills, primarily in and near India region, quantify equivalence and gaps to approved specifications, recommend feasibility of use
  • Work with Technical experts at production facilities (mills) to derive plan to develop and approve the materials from India for specific applications
  • Develop business case for qualification of alternate material specification or source (within semiconductor grade materials)
  • Prepare qualification plan, execute coupons manufacturing, and complete testing for various materials properties (mechanical testing, chemical analysis and non-destructive testing (NDT/NDE)
  • Drive approvals and cut in of feasible solutions

Education: Master's Degree / PhD in Materials Science or Metallurgy
Travel requirement: 30 % of the time
Experience:
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Industry
  • 2+ years as a post Doc.
