We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Lead Architect
Who are we
We are a lean team of senior Enterprise Application Architects under Technology Architecture responsible for developing and realizing the group strategy for Application Architecture domain. Application Architecture is one of the technical domains of Enterprise Architecture (EA).
What are we currently doing
We define and publish Application Architecture strategies, roadmaps and patterns in collaboration with GB-GFs and other architecture domains to support the following Group wide expectations aligned to the bank's technology strategy:
  • Fully exploit the advantages of the Cloud model with Cloud- native application development practices
  • Modernize architecture of our application portfolio to be fit-for-purpose and cost effective to support long term growth
  • Manage app architecture risk in an efficient and effective way
  • Promote architecture and engineering collaboration across GB/GFs to foster a community driven ecosystem
  • Transform talent to be equipped with the latest design thinking and technology

The Opportunity:
As a Senior Enterprise Application Architect, you will create strategies, principles, standards, reference architectures and patterns for the Application Architecture domain for group wide adoption across the global businesses / functions and regions. You will collaborate with Application Architects across the group to create these artefacts / methods aligned to the overarching business and technology strategies, enable their adoption and govern them. You will lead between 1-3 Application Architecture team members to deliver outcomes in various work streams.
What you'll do:
Successful candidate is expected to perform the following duties with a high level of competence as a Senior Enterprise Application Architect, by collaborating with the broader architecture and engineering community in HSBC:
  • Define / Revise Application Architecture standards & guidelines for HSBC (Cloud and On-Prem) - Reference Architectures and Design Patterns contextualised to HSBC which are aligned to other Architecture / Tech domains
  • Lead and facilitate Application Architecture (Software) governance and compliance processes to ensure introduction and use of fit for purpose and standard technologies in the bank
  • Contribute to EA blueprint work from Application Architecture perspective considering BIAN, TOGAF, HSBC inventories (such as EIM, PLADA, uCMDB, etc) and other related aspects
  • Create standards, methods and metrics for Architecture Diagnostics
  • Define Application Architecture standards / guidelines for current or emerging technologies / architecture styles like Event-driven, Low-code applications, etc
  • Promote adoption of Application Architecture strategies, standards and guidelines by collaborating with the extended architecture and engineering community across GB-GFs
  • Review and maintain application architecture artefacts, frameworks and patterns as references for the development teams across IT
  • Research and evaluation of technologies to identify fit for purpose
  • Represent Application Architecture domain in forums / events within HSBC
  • Provide consultancy to GB-GF projects asking for Application Architecture domain guidance and act as technical expert on recommended tools and methods within the solution
  • Hands-on proving of tools & packages, usually on GCP using Spring and occasionally on AWS.
  • Review POCs to validate architectures & design patterns, technology evaluation, etc
  • Create and promote accelerators for target application architecture adoption

What you will need to succeed in the role:
  • Hands-On Architecture & Design experience in
    • Application Architecture domain
    • Cloud Application Architecture, Microservices, Containers based applications
    • Web Technologies: Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Python, RESTful services
    • Microservices architecture - design and development
    • Containerized applications development with Kubernetes and Docker
    • Experience of coordinating with third party product vendors for product upgrades and testing of required new capabilities via proof of concepts while adhering to HSBC policies and procedures
  • Technical Specifics:
    • Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST, Cloud native application development
    • Cloud: GCP, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker
    • DevSecOps
    • Tools: Jira, Confluence
  • Architecture Governance (DDD, TRM review, EIM, PLADA, etc)
    • Experience in Technology Reference Model maintenance and review
    • DDD Control stories framework
    • Experience of setting up and running design authority
  • Strong Communication & Presentation Skills are required for effective collaboration with multiple stakeholders / teams across the group and for chairing Enterprise level working groups
  • Experience of working in BFSI domain

  • Enterprise Architecture practices (BIAN, TOGAF, ArchiMate)
  • ITSA processes (Yearly certification, GSD support), Vulnerability Management
