Job Description

We're seeking an exceptional design leader to manage and guide a team of talented multidisciplinary designers in one of the fastest growing tech startups of the nation to drive it towards becoming the best design team in the industry. What would you work on
Manage the team and the work
  • Own a team of multi-disciplinary designers consisting of product designers, visual designers, visual communication designers and researchers.
  • Along with the design leads, manage various design projects and their priorities. Help the team in resolving blockers. Ensure the output meets business goals, deadlines and the quality bar.
Shape up product direction and drive design-led projects
  • Take part in ideation, planning and prioritisation of our diverse range of products & features keeping the short and long-term goals of the organisation in mind.
  • Find out new directions that we can take in our quest to make payments and finance easy and accessible to all.
  • Strategise, prioritise and drive design-led projects. Also, help to extend the existing design systems and build new ones.
Mentor, Guide and Lead the Team
  • You will be responsible for the growth of the team. Help them grow their soft and hard skills. Help them define their career paths, identify opportunities and level up to do the best work of their lives.
Raise the Bar

  • You will set the bar high. You know what quality looks like and how to help product teams ship at that quality with minimal impact on velocity.
Drive and improve the design process
  • Iterate upon and improve the design processes to introduce the best practices within the team. Bring in user to the centre of the process and encourage design decisions to be backed by user-behaviour and data.
  • Create frameworks and guidelines for the team to deliver better and faster.
  • Conduct design reviews and status meetings. Facilitate design sprints, workshops, brainstorming sessions.
  • Prioritize research and design improvement opportunities in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Share engineering principles to guide the team from an engineering point of view.
Work with cross-disciplinary teams
  • Work closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing and various Business teams to deliver delightful customer experiences. Ensure that projects are well-defined, high impact, and successfully executed.
  • Collaborate with your peers in leadership to define a strategic vision for what we build, helping focus on solving user problems.
Design Evangelism, inside and outside
  • Be a strong advocate for exceptional user experiences and demonstrate their impact. Evangelise the goals of design and communicate them to the product, engineering and other teams in the organisation.
  • Represent Razorpay outside by speaking in external design conferences/meetups, publishing blogs/articles or running events.

Hire, Build and Scale team
  • You will be responsible to attract and hire excellent people. You'll work to create the systems for you (and others) to effectively evaluate and hire designers and researchers.

  • You are someone who increases the effectiveness of the entire team, not just your direct reports - a leader and an example-setter. You are effective even when you're not even in the room. Your processes are celebrated, emulated and copied by teams in and out of the organization.

You are an amazing designer who has shipped out many great designs.
  • 8+ years of experience in designing digital products.
  • A portfolio of kickass design work, executed either by yourself or a team that you led, that conveys an ability to ship successful products that people love.
  • A great understanding of Visual Design with relentless attention to detail and consistency.
  • You're product-minded and intensely customer-focused. You care about design all the way from a strategic level down to design details and getting the pixels right.
  • Good to have: experience with creative design projects on the likes of animated videos, motion designing and videography.
  • Understanding of the importance of behavioural analytics. You go by data-driven when applicable and understand nuances of it. Experience with various analytics tools like Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc would be awesome.
You have at least 2 years of experience in leading & managing design teams.
  • You have been managing, coaching and leading. You're passionate about developing designers skills and careers. You inspire and motivate people to do their best work fully aligned with business goals. You know how to grow and hire new leaders.
You love change and know how to manage it.
  • You can work effectively in a dynamic environment, juggle multiple projects, and prioritize work. Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development processes is a big plus.
You have excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • You are able to clearly articulate design decisions within a larger context to the team and leadership.
