Department Overview
Global RBWM Retail Credit Risk manages Credit Risk associated with Retail lending products (Mortgages, Credit Cards, Loans and Overdrafts) for all countries HSBC operates in. The function is supported by several hundred analytics professionals engaged in reporting, modelling and data manipulation. As a result, there are significant challenges to the effective management of data within the function requiring close cooperation with partners in RBWM and Finance.
The Retail Credit Risk (RCR) Data Team is seeking Data Analysts to support and deliver of Data projects at Global and Regional levels. A data strategy is being implemented consisting of MI and Data focused projects supporting business and regulatory requirements, with a goal of moving significant processes to Cloud.
The successful candidate will form an integral part of the RCR Data Management function and will be actively involved in the definition of business requirements, global data strategies and implementation activities. There is also a key requirement to ensure compliance against regulatory driven data requirements including Basel 3 and the Data Management FIM.
The successful candidate will be expected to exercise independent initiative in proactively overcoming obstacles to success, dealing with uncertainty and changing circumstances, project interdependencies, opportunities and risks.
The successful candidate will have the ability to multi-task priorities, be self-motivated and have a can-do attitude They will be expected to adopt an agile and flexible approach to work and an outstanding level of professionalism and conduct
Role Overview
This role provides regulatory data analytics using data from different geography. The primary responsibilities would be:
  • Strong Python Spark development experience
  • Understand the Data Requirements for regulatory requirements
  • Perform Data Analysis to develop data quality rules, refine and macrotise the DevOps
  • Exposure to regulatory/financial domain
  • Develop data quality rules and implement for data accuracy, validity & Completeness
  • Ability to interpret and manipulate large data sets, data storage, and data modelling
  • Experience in Data Analysis role with programming skills in SQL and Python
  • Exposure to Qliksense or any other dashboard reports
  • Exposure to Unix shell script and Hive database setup
  • Working closely with global and regional teams to deliver regulatory related data management and governance projects within strict timelines
  • Able to understand and work on data lineage across multiple reports and systems
  • Actively involved in the business requirements, global data strategies, testing and implementation activities

  • Working closely with global and regional teams to deliver data quality management and governance projects.
  • Support strategic modelling capabilities, implementation of common data model and strategic capability on Big Data and Cloud technologies.
  • Delivery of capabilities to allow the Global RBWM Risk function to effectively operate data management and governance.
  • Ensuring Data quality is of highest standards and envisage new ways of testing data quality in the organization.

Typical Targets and Measures
  • Delivery of project requirements in line with Business and Regulatory timetables.
  • Completion of key project documentation and deliverables (e.g. business requirements, functional design testing strategies)
  • Supporting successful deployment at site and Global Level with measurable business benefits
  • Delivery of a common data model for Retail Risk which would serve regulatory, reporting and modelling requirements
  • Identify, compare, and resolve data quality problems including evaluating large dataset for quality and accuracy

  • The successful candidate will form an integral part of the RCR Data team and will be actively involved in the definition of business requirements, global data strategies, testing and implementation activities

  • Ensuring that business requirements are fully defined and signed-off by key project stakeholders. This will require working in partnership with global and regional business teams to define, validate requirements and ensure buy-in
  • Conducting data analysis and clearly presenting and documenting findings
  • Supporting workshops to capture and agree business requirements
  • Working in partnership with HOST, RBWM and Finance as well as regional and global RCR managers
  • Evidence of progress against plan and timely escalation of Risks and Issues
  • Supporting effective project tracking
  • Evidence of proactive escalation of potential risks and proposed mitigation.
  • Reporting of Data quality Metrics to Senior management
  • Raise and track all data quality issues for successful remediation and resolution of problematic data

Role Context (The environment and operating conditions of the role including the extent of guidance and authority)
  • Location of role is targeted to be in Bangalore, India but will require working across multiple geographies (and projects).
  • The role holder will take direction from the VP - Data quality Implementation with an Entity reporting line into the Global RBWM
  • Risk Head of Regulatory Analytics within the GAC, Bangalore.
  • The role holder will be expected to support RCR managers across the markets we operate in on matters of data governance and management.

Management of Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)
  • The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account
  • of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
  • This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring.
  • Also by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.

Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)
  • The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
  • The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance,
  • Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.

Role Dimensions (e.g. balance sheet , lending/expenditure limits, /volume of transactions, budget)
  • Retail Banking and Wealth Management Risk's (RBWM) goal is to strengthen and enable RBWM to grow its business in a profitable and sustainable way.
  • The RBWM Risk team directly contribute to the profitability of the RBWM. This includes a wide range of activities
  • starting with setting the risk appetite through to managing the customer through the credit risk cycle.
  • RBWM Risk play a key role in ensuring RBWM products and services treat customers fairly whether sold through HSBC's global branch network, over the phone or via the web.
  • There are several thousand people globally with expertise in a variety of disciplines including: credit risk management, analytics, modelling, forecasting, underwriting, wealth management risk (including insurance and asset management) risk strategy, operational risk and collections.

Key Responsibilities:
  • The candidate will work closely with regional RDM teams to ensure the below activities are fulfilled:
  • Engage with regional counterparts and implement best in Class data quality and metrics reporting framework
  • Hands on involvement in framing of DQ rules, guiding and building robust Data quality via technical ways, enrichment of rules as per evolving data governance, FIM policies, business needs.
  • Contribute and guide a team for implementing best in class Data validation setup and monitoring KPI's as part of continuous improvements.
  • Own and accountable for the process of DQ implementation, Data remediation, stakeholder management and handling Working Group meetings in the space of RDM Metrics
  • Monitor time critical BAU process of assessing data qualitatively and quantitatively and ensure no/minimal impact to downstream data consumers.
  • Active involvement in review conducted by Second and Third line of defense
  • Mentoring and project management for other team members
  • Support ad-hoc requests in support of the business as necessary
  • Drive standardization of analysis and processes to gain efficiency

Skills/Experience Required
  • The successful candidate is expected to have a good working knowledge and delivery experience preferably within a Banking MI, Risk Management Information and Data Risk systems environment.
  • Proven problem solving and analytical abilities including the ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details and apply sound business and technical domain knowledge.
  • Expert knowledge of data modeling approaches including Relational Modeling, Ralph Kimball Methodology,
  • Experienced manager in implementing enterprise level Master data management, implementing DQ Dimensions and data management principles in practical business solutions.
  • Experience in implementing logical and physical common data models across a complex global data ecosystem.
  • Good Knowledge of ETL tool and programming for data manipulation is a must
  • Practical experience in the use of Data quality Tools build on Python, Spark is a must. Exposure to reporting dashboards for presenting data to senior management is expected.
  • Experience of building and implementing Data quality to catch source system issues, derivation logic, back track business needs to technical needs is required.
  • Experience of process re-engineering and process management challenging the existing ecosystem and constant innovation to improve the data quality processes.
  • Knowledge of data governance and management principles and processes.
  • Knowledge of BCBS239, IFRS-9, Stress Testing or experience of any other Banking regulatory environment is a big plus.
  • Knowledge of Python/Spark is mandatory. Excel-VBA/SAS SQL is a plus
  • 4-year Bachelor's or Master's degree from reputed University with concentration on finance, economics or other quantitative field such as statistics or engineering.
  • Strong analytical skills with 4+ years of proven data analysis experience or equivalent. Knowledge and
  • understanding of financial-services/ banking-operations preferred.
  • Understanding of the retail risk data and credit risk concepts/terminologies
  • Experience in BCBS239 project or similar programs
  • Ability to comprehend intricate and diverse range of business problems and analyse them with limited or complex data and provide a feasible solution framework.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and drive for success
