The Role Responsibilities
Strategy
To provide insightful, relevant, succinct, timely and action oriented credit analysis of trading and financing opportunities for Global Credit Trading.
Insightful: Analysis should provide historical as well as forward-looking, focused opinion on the likely development of both business and financial risk elements in relevant industry / geographic context together with a calibrated articulation of key risks and potential mitigants
Relevant: Besides a holistic counterparty assessment, an analysis should comment on structural elementsrelevant to SCB&rsquos existing or proposed financing structure, including security arrangements
Succinct: While always providing sufficient granularity to substantiate its conclusions and observations, ananalysis should present opinion in as succinct a manner as is practicable
Timely: Time is of the essence in many cases, so being quick to turn around a comprehensive analysis is critical.
Action oriented: Expressing a view or action and evolution of the view based on experience or observation is critical.
Additionally, most Investment Memos and Business Credit Applications will involve the following:

  • Facility Structure, Terms and Conditions

  • Active partnership with other stakeholders in formulation of proposed Covenants and Risk Triggers


Business
To support the Global Head of Credit Trading in ensuring that investment risk is analysed and presented in an efficient manner.
Processes
Timely drafting of credit analyses. Such analysis should be Insightful, Relevant and Succinct (see Strategy) and include the following, inter alia:

  • Discussion of the dynamics and nature of the credit obligor&rsquos industry, including key risk aspects

  • Assessment of the credit&rsquos competitive positioning within its industry

  • Discussion of management strength, experience and track record and corporate governance

  • Articulation of the Client&rsquos strategy and an assessment of its clarity and associated execution risks

  • Assessment of funding strategy, financial policy, treasury activity (hedging, cash management) and liquidity

  • Development of a current / forward year base forecast performance expectation

  • Assessment of balance sheet strength, alongside cashflow and profitability vulnerability, via ratio analysis and/or stress testing

  • Discussion of other pertinent risk aspects

  • Evaluation of risks associated with proposed transactions, where required

  • Supporting business on structuring deals

  • Documentation support on credit aspects

  • Testing and monitoring covenants & risk triggers


Preparation of other analysis as required, such as Industry specific reviews, portfolio reviews, assessments of new prospects etc.
People and Talent

  • Support others in the team and within Credit Trading on ad hoc projects and prospective deals

  • Continually strive to share key relevant knowledge and learnings with others in the team

  • Work closely with other stakeholders, including but not limited to Risk, other parts of Credit Trading and Global Credit Markets, Legal, Operations and Compliance

  • Have an inclusive mindset, and align with SCB&rsquos desired qualities, and the people culture desired within Financial Markets


Risk Management
In respect of credits where the role-holder is assigned as analyst:

  • Proactive monitoring of key entity or industry wide events and/or developments, as well as of covenantsand risk triggers where applicable

  • Partnering other colleagues in Credit Trading in pursuing their financing strategies through proactive idea generation, support in preparing materials for discussion with Risk and through ensuring they are always fully briefed on key risk aspects

  • Partnering Risk through clear presentation of credit analysis and proposed credit grading, as well asthrough proactive and considered discussion of key risk aspects

  • Conducting general due diligence in respect of credit analysis

  • Acting as a broader point of expertise in respect of credit aspects within Credit Trading


Governance
Maintaining integrity in analysis is critical. This includes iterative discussion with stakeholders, seniors and other colleagues around initial thoughts, draft analyses, key sector and geographic trends, as well as discussion of covenants, risk triggers and the like. It involves proactive idea generation and discussions around potential business opportunities, assisting both Credit Trading and Risk around proposed transaction structuring and execution, where relevant, and identifying and alerting stakeholders of emerging risk aspects on a continuous basis.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Key requirements:

  • Analytical strength &ndash to spot emerging risks, in particular forward-looking industry trends.

  • Collaborative &ndash to work in partnership with other colleagues within the team


Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years&rsquo relevant credit analysis experience in front office banking, corporate finance or treasury function

  • Familiarity with debt documentation and credit analysis (numerical & qualitative).


  • Strong analytical ability and comfort with ambiguity

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (in English), with proven ability to work across cultures and within a dynamic environment

  • Able to hold credible dialogue at all levels of the organisation

  • Well organized, able to multi-task and balance competing demands and time pressures


  • Familiarity with the loans market is preferred


Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor&rsquos degree, preferably in Engineering (B.E./ B.Tech) or Commerce (B.Com) from a reputed institution

  • C.A., C.S, PGDM / MBA is a plus

  • Sound knowledge of accounting and financial principles gained by experience or qualification

  • CFA qualification advantageous, but not required
