The Webmasters role is to coordinate the planning, maintenance, and accessibility of Web site content in a way that ensures the consistency of the Web sites look and feel. This individual is also responsible for analyzing, reviewing and implementing websites that are optimized to be picked up by search engines. Understanding of a variety of Web development languages is required.
Prepare a long-term plan for Web site development and presence, including standards and guidelines for content, based on business goals and input from stakeholders.
1. Create and maintain a consistent Web site architectural structure.
2. Co-ordinate with Web site departments and content creators from across the organization.
3. Liaise with systems experts on hardware and software issues that affect the Web site and its availability.
4. Program webpages and upload them onto the site.
5. Ensure a consistent look and feel across the Web site by promoting uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images, and layout, and creating appropriate templates to assist content authors.
6. Find, diagnose, and fix Web site problems, including broken links (both internal and external), typographical errors, and formatting inconsistencies.
7. Reviewing and analyzing client sites for areas that can be improved and optimized.
8. Identifying powerful keywords to drive the most valuable traffic.
9. Running PPC campaigns. Writing powerful calls-to-action to convert visitors.
10. Filling websites and other content with effective keywords.
11. Writing effective SEO content for blogs, websites and social media accounts.
12. Developing link building strategies.
13. Analyzing keywords and SEO techniques used by competitors.
14. Keeping updated on both white hat and black hat SEO strategies to avoid stay within search engine guidelines.
15. Compiling and presenting SEO guidelines.
16. Manage the acquisition and ongoing maintenance of the organizations domain names with the appropriate registrars.
17. Identify, implement, and manage Web site presence and promotion opportunities, such as search engine registration and establishing pointer links from other relevant Web sites.
18. Recommend and implement enhancements and modifications to the Web site.
19. Assess and itemize costs for Web site enhancements and modifications.
20. Create and maintain an archive for Web site templates and images.
21. Create and maintain a reference archive for older versions of the Web site and its content.
22. Participate in the development and integration of graphical and multimedia components into the Web site, including audio and video, with due regard paid to appropriate compression techniques, resolution, s, color maps, and depths to ensure high quality and speed of delivery.
23. Develop, implement, and enforce Web site appropriate use and privacy policies.
24. Ensure sensitive and/or classified organizational information is not inadvertently posted to the Web site.
25. Develop, implement, and adhere to a regular Web site maintenance policies and procedures, including end user content change request forms and posted update/maintenance schedules, to ensure site accuracy and timeliness.
26. Set and enforce compatibility and interoperability standards that ensure site accessibility for users with older browser versions as well as low speed connections.
27. Set and enforce standards that ensure site accessibility for users with disabilities or impairments. Monitor, analyze, and report on Web site traffic.
28. Receive and respond to all e-mail messages for the Webmaster in a timely and courteous fashion.
29. Create and maintain a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document for Web site users. Analyze, report on, and take action on Web site user feedback.
30. Create original copy for Web site features where required.
31. Track and evaluate new standards, technologies and trends in Web site development, design, and delivery.
32. Assess, recommend, and purchase Web authoring, development, and publishing tools as required.
33. Assess competing Web sites as regards content, look and feel, and functionality, and make improvement recommendations to our organizations site.
Position Requirements
a. Bachelor's degree in computer science, graphic designer, communications, digital media or equivalent experience.
b. Good knowledge of Web technologies, protocols, of Internet programming languages, and tools including WordPress, HTML, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, and JQuery.
c. Experience in content marketing, content growth and SEO.
d. Working knowledge of search engine optimization practices.
e. Familiarization Google analytics.
f. Experience with website optimization tools.
g. Working knowledge of Web authoring, development, and publishing tools.
h. Strong understanding of communications, marketing, and customer service principles.
i. Experience with computer graphic and multimedia design.
j. Comprehensive experience with all aspects of Web site content management.
k. Sensitivity to browser compatibility issues.
l. Hands-on experience with Web-database integration and a range of database platforms.
m. Experience in gathering, analyzing, and meeting business requirements.
n. Understanding of basic project management principles.
o. Good understanding of the organizations goals and objectives.
