Job Description
IS Encryption Analyst (L 09) 
Working Hours (No rotational): 5 PM – 2 AM

Role Summary/Purpose:

This role will be part of an enterprise-wide information security operations team responsible for the Synchrony Financial (SYF) Encryption operations. The ideal candidate will provide Level 3-4 support while setting priorities, and

managing day-to-day operations across an international team. The candidate in this role is expected to support infrastructure/security projects, information security assessments and audits, manage production problems, root cause analysis / remediation / resolution for system issues, defects, and minor enhancements, supporting project transition, operations, and technology.

Essential Responsibilities:

-Administer encryption infrastructure and operations

-Ensure 24x7 uptime of the encryption infrastructure

-Enterprise information security operations support

-Manage encryption metrics for security operations reporting

-Manage encryption processes to remediate defects

-Manage security standards in line with financial industry/sector

-Interface with vendors that provide encryption related services to the enterprise

-Lead the design, implementation, and support of encryption enhancements

-Lead the definition/implementation of POCs (Proof of Concept) around encryption

-Manage enterprise-wide encryption monitoring mechanisms

-Manage assessment reports focused on assets with encryption dependencies

-Prepare audit and compliance evidence/reports, lead, recommend and support solutions for requirements (i.e. GLBA, PCI, SB1386, SOX)

-Ensure expectations are met and ensure high customer satisfaction levels through established metrics against SLAs (Service Level Agreements)

-Benchmark and implement encryption/security best practices to mitigate potential threats to Synchrony's ecosystem; digital infrastructure and operations

-Serve as subject matter expert in encryption matters

-Support the design and implementation of procedures and controls necessary to ensure and protect the safety and security of information systems assets, including prevention of intentional or inadvertent access,

-modification, disclosure, or destruction

-Understand business objectives, priorities, drivers and technology focus areas

-As needed, act as a member of rapid response security operations/project support team, working under demanding deadlines, operating as team member as well as independently to resolve complex problems

-Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned


-Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Security, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field with minimum 6 years of Information Security experience with a minimum of 3 years of operational

experience implementing, and managing/supporting encryption platforms.

-Minimum 3 years of technical expertise in various cryptography concepts/platforms, and possess an in-depth background in various infrastructure environments, as well as operating systems; Linux, Solaris, UNIX,


-Minimum 3 years of cryptography, databases, information security domains, networking, storage and system administration/monitoring experience

-Demonstrated experience coordinating and supporting complex enterprise projects, including encryption product deployment, enhancements, integrations, and upgrades

-Minimum 3 years of MS Active Directory, Group Policy (i.e. certificate auto-enrollment)

-Minimum 2 years, project management experience delivering full-life cycle projects

-Minimum 2 years, experience with Linux, Solaris, UNIX

-Strong communication, interpersonal, oral, organization, and written skills

-Working knowledge of commercial and open source encryption technologies

-Working knowledge of hardware security modules and key management platforms

-Medium to large company background in financial services or government or healthcare industries may prove helpful
